the rear end has 12 bolts. but how do i find out the size??i think its the original rear end.

its a GM corporte 12 bolt axle with a 8 7/8" ring gear.
pull the differential cover and look for the numbers stamped on the side of the ring gear.
i.e. 11 68 10 41
that would translate to a production date of November 1968 and a gear ratio of 4.10 (41 divded by 10 = 4.1)

Up on the top front of the passenger side axle tube is a stamped code. Scrape away ths grease and dirt. Call the dealer with that number and they can help. Look up the proceedure for determining the ration by jacking up the car( being safe, blocked) and turn the whell while counting the number of times the drive shaft rotates.
