Get 2 Chinese hamsters. They are so cute I have 2 and mine have never bit me before. The breeder told me they were one of the friendliest hamster breeds. Go on this website it has good information on them. http://www.russianhamsters.co.uk/chinese%20ham%20info.htm

I would get a regular hamster, one they are easier to hold, snuggle and catch, two regular ones are genarally nicer. Okay to care for a hamster:
1. get a good sized cage not a tiny plastic one that is made of solid plastic. I got my hamster a cage that has purple wires and has a large wheel. it had two levels and a base where you put the wood chips and toys ect. in. It was about 50 dollars but it was well worth it.
2. Next get a good hamster food with different seeds and textures so that they get all the nutrients they need. Also it is best to get a bottle dropper for water. The kind that hook on the outside of the cage and has a ball at the end so they can just lick the water out. If you choose to do a bowl make sure it is shallow enough so that the hamster cant drown or get extremly wet.
3. Get chew toys, at your local pet store they usually sell small animal chews. Buy a few wooden ones or flavored chews. What ever you like.
4. Buy some bedding, wood chips, cotton fluff ( try not to use news paper as the ink can be harmful to their health) pretty much anything will do. Hamsters like to burrow so I would get them some type of bed enclosure you can buy plastic igloo shaped things or you can cut a hole in a small tissue box and fill it with bedding any thing will do.
5. Make sure your hamster is played with at least once or twice a day for about 20-30 minutes. It doesnt have to be long but at least let him or her get excersised. One easy way to excercise them is to purchase a plastic ball that you place your hamster inside. This way they can roll around the house for about 20-30 minutes. Most hamsters enjoy it a lot.
6. Just make sure that if your hamster starts to have diahreah or runny nose, tail that is wet, film over eyes or anything that doesnt look normal on your hamster take it to the vet as quickly as possible becuase hamsters do not take sicknesses well and could easily die from them. Also if your hamster isnt acting normal or is slower than usual you should take it to the vet. Just make sure that you enjoy your hamster and spend plenty of time with it. I hope this helped bye!

I think a Syrian hamster would be a good hamster to get as dwarf hamsters can be a bit vicious. I can't possible tell you all the stuff you need to know about your hamster so have a read through this website -
http://www.petplanet.co.uk/petplanet/kids/kidshamster.htm
Also some pet shops will give you a starter pack containing a book.
Good luck

i love Russian drawf hamsters, they are so cute, little round dumpy balls of fluff, i have had two the first one (female) was a little princess she was very gentle and cuddly, the second one i have is a (male) he is inclined to be rather lazy (as of all male species) but he is the funniest thing to watch, i do also have a blind Syrian (reject whilst was working at a pet shop) (the big ginger hamsters) she is such a dozy thing she actually dribbles aswell some Syrians can be the 666 devil hamster be warned!!lol, drawf hamsters can be put in pairs as long as they are the same sex and have a specially adapted cage for them (the bars are closer together on the cage) and they cant really use tubes as they do not have the pads on there feet for them to climb easier, whereas Syrians can only be kept separately and can have tubes etc. hope this helps

I had a handicapped hamster and it lived for FIVE years. It was such a wierdo, it was born with only one eye. (its left eye missing) but it was pretty much the best pet ive ever had. Theyre easy to care for, and just all around nice to keep. Most hamsters only live for two years though. ANYWAYS, get a syrian (teddybear) hamster. Theyre the best. =). Hamsters are NOT social, so limit one per cage.

if your going to get a hamster don't get two at the same time they WILL FIGHT even the dwarf hamsters fight each other. its commen for people to think they can live in groups .yes true but not in small cages they are territorial and one of them always end up biting the owner. don't buy large hamsters in two eather as they will kill each other. other then that they make really good pets!have fun!!!!!!

teddy bears seem the most lovable to me, get a little hamster book at the pet store when you buy the hamster.

contrary to popular belief, hamsters are not stinky at all. it's their house that gets stinky, so you should clean it every 4 days or so. you can also feed them whenever u like, but they will not overeat. more often than not, they will just hide the food you gave them.
hamsters are pretty low maintenance pets. you don't even have to give them baths. i have a hamster named Bogart. He's a teddy bear hamster (who has his own website --- http://loader1521.blogdrive. com ) he's really cute and he's pretty sweet. he comes up to me whenever i tell him i have food ready for him.
he also knows it when he's being called. he's pretty rad. it's weird too that he knows how to pose for cameras whenever i take photos with him.
cool hamster.
