I'm an american collge student. I am in my first year, but I want to get my 4 year undergraduate degree in ireland instead. My sat scores aren't very good 490 matrh, 610 reading, 570 writing, 1100 for math and reading combined. How hard is it for an american student to get into trinity. I know that it is hard for students from ireland to get in as trinity is an excellent university, but is it easier for international students to gain entrance? Do I have any chance with those sat scores? My gpa was like a B- which isn't very good. If trinity is out of the question what about university college dublin, cork, limerick, or galway. Could I get into any of them. Bascially i'm an average american college student. which schools do I have a shot at. Thanks for your help.

I usually like to be optimistic when giving advice about things like this.

But I don't think you have much of a chance of getting into Trinity. As you point out, it is hard to get in if you are Irish. Schools like this do not make it easier for foreigners to get in.

You may have a shot at getting a year abroad at Trinity, and can certainly do that at some other Irish university.

Well all colleges in Ireland are the same for an Irish student to get into. For example if you want to do law you'll need around 530 points in the leaving cert. It will all depend on what you want to do . Arts is around 350 points for Irish students so thats not too high but lawetc are in the 500's which means Irish students would need to get all A's and B+ on the day of the leaving cert exams. I'm not sure how it works for american students but british students need to meet the points requirment. So I think it will all come down to which course you want to persue.

Just to add some more: No school in Ireland is hard to get into really. There is no such thing as interview or essay as you have in the U.S. You apply in January. All applications accepted. Each course has X number of points you need to get in. If you get the points you're in and thats it. I go to college in NUI Maynooth and we have lots of Americans here. Trinity has even more foreign students. I say go for it . I'm not sure which course you're doing but provided it's nothind in the medical area you have a good chance. ( Medicine in Ireland is v.hard to get into as there are only a handful of courses in the entire country!!) Also Trinity has a rep for international students as not to long ago it was off limits to most Irish students as it was a protestant school. Anyway, I'm ranting now but I think you have a shot.

points to get in to Trinity are crazy. I only wanted to do English and I need 515 points out of 600! for ENGLISH! I've visited Trinity and it was just so big, I gave up after fifteen minutes and left. UCD has become one of the most popular choices now. depends what course you're looking to do. other good choices would be cork, limerick and galway too. the points are pretty reasonable there. I'm hoping to go to Maynooth, I really like the look of it. check it out on www.nuim.ie
