It is OK in Lakota culture for Lakotas to marry white people. A Lakota man can marry a White woman unless they have an adopted relationship. For example if you have been adopted as his sister then incest taboos exist. I don't know how far this goes. Does it apply to adopted cousins? Kinship is very important in Lakota culture and informal adoptions occur frequently and the taboos in adopted relationships are just as strong in adopted relationships as they are in blood relationships. I heard of a white female anthropologist who was working on the Lakota reservation. A young Lakota man liked her and adopted her as his sister. On night he got drunk and started hugging and kissing her in a seductive manner, she pushed him away and reminded him that they were "brother and sister." He desisted. The next day when he sobered up, he was very ashamed of himself.
There are other questions that you should be concerned with like can you live on the reservation with him! Well, he may not live on a reservation.
But I have heard that White people could not live on the reservation even if they were married to an Indian. I don't know but you would want to find out.
Dr. Raymond DeMallie is a Professor at Indiana University and an expert on the kinship of Lakota Indians. Perhaps you could find articles he has written on this.
But the best thing for you to do is talk to this man frankly about these issues and talk to other Lakotas (elders would be good).
I have listed an article by Prof. DeMallie published in a book listed in the sources below.

Lakota is something to be proud of, but who told you that he was not supposed to be with you because you are white? As long as you respect the heritage and culture of his ancestors, there should not be a problem.

...and you've posted to the Lesbian,Gay,Bi,Trans section, not the general "Cultures and Groups" section you were probably aiming for.
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about traditional Lakota beliefs, so I can't answer your question - except to say that you'll get better responses if you repost it to a more relevant group. But for what it's worth, I hope it works out for you.

This is an interesting question but you got it on the wrong category. People who don't know what lakota means get the feelling that it is a synonym for gay, bi or some other alternative lifestyle.
Ask him, his family or tribal elders.

congrats to you...there aren't a lot of people out there that are virgins, and it's something to be proud of. don't fall into temptation just to prove to others that you're experienced or whatnot. you want your 1st to be special and not with just some random guy or someone who you thought that's perfect that turns out to be a jerk. i mean, if you believe you haven't found the right guy yet, then wait. there's no rush. most guys that really love and care about you wouldn't be turned off by this, but respect you more because you haven't whored yourself out to the rest of the world. this is something special and you should be able to share it with someone special. so if you truely feel a full connection, love, and know (not think) this is the right guy to give away your virginity..go for it. but if you have a single doubt in your mind, then wait. good luck~!
