Ofcourse wash it is your first response but with what? I can wash this thing with half a bottle of dish soap, let it soak for half a day, rinse it out and it still smells like coffee LOL

I use the thermos for ice water too and it sort of taints the water in an overly flamboyant type of liquid with the aftertaste of coffee. So what is a safe way of removing that smell, or is there no solution... just curious if others have wondered the same and come up with a good solution... thanks in advance!

I think u have to use white vinegar, it cleans the coffee pot so why not the thermos but I would wash it out after the vinegar, good luck hope that helps :o)!

Bleach, you can put bleach in it over night then rinse it out several times turning it upside down in the dish rack for a day or so. The bleach smell will leave your thermos and you can start making that icky coffee smell again. BTW, the bleach will also get the coffee stains out of it too.

I would use bleach and let it sit for a while..Then rinse really well..I know a-lot of people that put a little bleach in their dishwater to kill bacteria..And it's pretty much the same thing you drink in most city water..
It won't hurt you as long as you rinse well..
I have done this in plastic tea pitchers and it gets the smell and stains right out!

vinegar. plain old white vinegar will take the smell outof just about anything. soak vinegar in it for a bit, then scrub it. if that doesn't work,(it should) try baking soda. of course after using the vinegar, wash it with hot water & dish soap, or your water will taste like vinegar!

Rub it with cut lemons (the juicy part).

Swish and soak for an hour with baking soda and water.

Make a paste with baking soda and water and scrub it in there with your finger.

Baking soda will take it out. You can put a couple of spoonfuls in and let it sit overnight. You'll be amazed how well it works! Good luck!
