injectors are electrical parts, they operate by opening and closing several hundered to thousand times a minute, just like any electrical item they eventually wear out. The fuel rail is a little more solid, and you should not really have an issue with it. The biggest thing is getting bad fuel which causes the parts to become dirty. Dirt leads to decreased performance, but they will still work. First try running some fuel system cleaner through the system, and replace the fuel filter, if they are still bad, then you will want to remove ONE injector at a time, while having the injector loose, watch it and have someone start the car briefly, remember your dealing with fuel, and you can be burnt up, but you should have a good stream of fuel from the injector, if it looks good put it back and move on to the next one, if all are good, then you may have to remove all of them and the fuel rail and clean it up, if it still isnt good, you may have a bad fuel line, so you can see where this is going.....

injectors will go bad by themselves after time, usually 50,000 mile or more, sometimes never, thats electrical and theres no physical appearence change. they can become clogged from sitting without running for more than 6 months with cheap gas. fuel rails almost never go bad without physical abuse. some chryslers in the 90's leaked at fuel rail seams.
to "become damaged" sounds like physical damage done intentionally.

Bad fuel with water or other corrosive things in it. Sometimes there's dirt in the tank and that gets into the plumbing and screws things up.
