And how can they tell if they're awake? Do they have dreams where they can see?

Blind people dream in the same way they perceive the outer world. Dream world is just an echo of the outer life. Thus blind people understand direction and sounds better than ordinary people. Most of their dreams are about physical pain and pleasure, hearing sounds and about their stretching of their muscles to go up and down and over rugged surfaces.
Blind people feel the world around through their outer senses and feel their dreams with the echo of the inner senses.

when you dream your mind is picking out fragments of your memory and trying to make sense of it all, think of it like unerased memories on a computer's ram.

a blind person has 5 modes of sensual input, using information from the 5 senses, he probably forms a mental picture of his surroundings, just like when you read a book, you form a mental picture of the environment in the story. the dream a blind person has probably goes the same way, they know and acknowledge that they are blind, so they are blind in their dreams as well, when they are dreaming that they are not blind, their minds replace the virtual environment in their dreams with the mental pictures the normally create, the details they fail to picture probably becomes blur

Interesting question...very interesting... I have no idea if they, assuming they were born blind, can see in dreams...however,I'm quite sure that, if you were blind, you'd know when were asleep and when you were not. As long as you have at least one of the other sentences, you'll be able to make that distinction

every one can dream regardless they can see or not...and absolutely people who is blind can know whether they are awake or not....

and i think they can dream bout everything. according to Freud...dreaming is the time for an unconscious mind come to your consciousness (something like that...i forgot what he said actually... lol)

Apparently, they only have auditory dreams if they have been completely blind since birth.
