I usually tip at least 15% of the total bill, usually more.
All I ask is that the server have a good attitude with a smile, the table be pre-bussed of any finished dishes, and drinks refilled in a fairly timely manner. That's it! I'm not high maintenance or anything like that, so it doesn't take much to please me!

It's an insult to leave less than 15%.
Remember, your server doesn't cook your food. They do put the order in, but if the restraunt is busy, its more than likely the kitchen messed up, not your server.
Servers generally get paid around $2.13 an hour. I can't remember the last time I actually got money on a check, because all the 2.13 goes for taxes. Our pay is what you leave us.
If you have children that leave a mess on the floor, add an extra 5 because we have to clean that mess up ourselves.
If you sit and talk for longer than 15 minutes after you're finished eating, leave a little extra, because you sitting at that table means we won't get sat another, meaning we don't make any money.
Most servers are not allowed to get drinks from the bar, we have to wait on the bartender to make them for you. It may take a minute, patience is a virtue.
By all means, if your server was rude, speak to a manager, and leave less for a tip. But don't tell a good server, "You did a great job! Excellent service." and then leave a 10% tip. We can't pay bills on compliments.
If you get a discount on your food, tip on the total before the discount.
Conversation with a server could make their shift a whole lot better. We actually like the tables that joke with us and treat us like people.

Good service is fast, efficient, friendly, and precise. It's nice when your given suggestions about food choices. A server should always be aware of the needs of the customer, extra napkins, full beverages, hot food, etc. Good tip: 15% Exceptional tip: 25% or more and a good word to the manager or supervisor.

I expect the server to come back a couple times to offer refills and a good personality is best. As for tipping, all I do is look at how much the tax is, double the amount, and thats what I leave as a tip. If someone is particularly rude or gives me the impression they could care less about doing their jobs, then I dont tip at all.

Well, I think the sever just needs to do
their job in an efficient and friendly manner.
They shouldn't have to "kiss-butt" in
order to earn a proper tip.
If the server does a good job,
then the customer should do theirs,
and leave 15-20% tip of the bill as a tip.
Pretty simple huh?

Simple rule: You determine what good service means to you and tip accordingly. Good service will make up for a so-so meal. Bad service will ruin the best meal. I leave 20% or nothing, period. It is not fair to reward someone when they do a lousy job and leaving a penny is too demoralizing. On the other hand, 20% is fair and what is expected for good service. Hope this helps.

Server should be friendly, quick to ask about drink refills, and make sure everything is fine after the food arrives. I usually tip 20% if all of these are met.

I expect fast and courteous-- not necessarily overly-familiar-- service. Pet peeves include waitresses who flirt with my husband and ignore me. I expect someone to check on us at least every ten or fifteen minutes before our food comes and to at least be watchful in case we need something.
I tip well if a server does a good job, usually 18%.
