I don't want to sound untraditional, but my boyfriends and I have always talked about it prior to the holiday:

1) I go to mine, and he goes to his.
2) We do a quicky round where we visit both and say 'hi' and then move on.
3) We hang with friends and those that have no where to go.
4) It is just us and our family.
5) We rotate - We visit his one year, than mine the next.

If what you are doing is not working for you, how about coming up with an idea that will, get all your immediate family and brain storm until you come up with some thing that will work

alternate every year between the families if they live far away or alternate times or meals if you live close. and yes everyone goes through these types of arguments but you both need to compromise if you want your relationship to last.

well i think it comes with being married. god knows i hate having my mother in law over since she is crazy. and my mom doesn't care for my husband so visits over there are always uncomfortable. but niether one of us has the heart to say we want to enjoy our holiday alone.

Have it at your house from now on, and invite both familes...that will stomp any arguement that arises! Holidays are tough!

well, i suggest making a fair rotation. my husband & i decided to spend thanksgiving with one side & christmas with the other. then, do the opposite next year. we will have "christmas" with the other side at a later date.

Yes. We either visit both or alternate years.
