Steve McNiven on pencils has recently become my No.1 for his work on The New Avengers due to his clean and vivid depictions. Please give me the artist, the comic book their work appeared in and the reasons why.

If at all possible, please provide a link or website which demonstrates their work.

Steve Niven is awesome! I'd have to say that my favourite artist would have to be Lenil Francis Yu. He's worked on Wolverine in the past. He's done some X-men titles and has worked at DC, I think but I'm not positive. I know him for his work at marvel.

Lenil Yu's work is gritty and real. If you've read the Wolverine arc, where he went back to Madripoor and fought Sabretooth, with Viper in the story, it looked awesome. I can't remember the issue #'s. I really enjoyed when he worked on the arc, where Logan is hunted by a Scottish assasin, that he knew in his past. That was awesome!

I used to like "old school" Mark Texeira when he worked on Wolverine. Andy Kubert is awesome as well. Was it Andy who did the wolverine story "Origin"? It was one of the Kubert brothers. Jim Lee is great. He has very.... oraganic illustrations. He's great with drawing action. However, I've always preferred the artists that drew more proportional illustrations like classic John Romita and now, Lenil Francis Yu.

Even though he's not a regular, everyone has to acknowlege Alex Ross' contribution to comics. He paints like cameras capture images; he's that good. I wouldn't need to explain my self if you've read DC's Batman:War on Crime, Superman: Peace on Earth. Beautifully painted! You look at that and brings the scope of the characters in to perspective. Especially his work on Superman. Check out Marvels or Kingdom Come and see an entire series with Ross art in it. Classic characters redesigned but familiar and looking great!

Stan Lee was Writer & Publisher not artist.
Pre- 1960's Marvel art was Bill Everett & Wally Wood
early1960's Marvel art was Jack the King Kirby & Steve Ditko
Late 60's was John Buscema & John Romita
The 70's gave us George Perez, Bernie Wrightson and Neal Adams.
Old John Byrne could fill out that list.
The 80's master was Frank Miller. period.
Everyone else copies their style.

Jack Kirby. He definitely is the reason why I love comic books. I have read his New Gods work and early Marvel material. He is not only my favorite Marvel comic artist, DC artist too. He worked with both companies.

IMO, PAIN23 has already given the best answer here thus far, and I agree with him on choosing Alex Ross as one of his favorites. Check out the link to his website below. He has brought comic book art into a whole new level.

I'm also very proud of my Filipino brothers Whilce Portacio and Leinil Yu, and Frank Miller will always be high on my list.
