Gigli - Total Disaster.
Otherwise, 28 Days Later. An odd choice as the "disaster" part occurs during a coma, but I think it captures a realistic feel of what it would be like to survive near extinction, as well as the messed up state of the few people who make it through.
Dismissing it as a "horror" film is unfair, I believe as it spends a lot of time making you think about the characters, unlike the average slash and gore fare.

When I read this question Titanic came to mind. It was such a wonderful movie and the fact that this event actually happened makes it that much more powerful. The devastation that these unfortunate people endured is heart wrenching. I cry every time I see this movie and I pray for the families of the people who were lost during this time. This event will go down in history and the movie will also and that is something very powerful.

The Towering Inferno. Steve McQueen, Paul Newman. 5 Academy Awards. This is where it all began, Irwin Allen disaster movies in the 70's were huge. They seem a little dated now, but still great fun.
