Stocks are traded on uptick or downtick basis. One tick is 1/8th of a basis point. 32 ticks makes one basis point. So on the opening bell if a sale is tendered to the specialist then it trades at 1 tick below previous days closing price. If a buy then 1 tick above previous closing price. So the opening price will be +/- 1 tick of previous closing price.

If you go to the Finance section at Yahoo and enter the ticker symbol, you can see the going price via overnight trading through the foreign markets. That may give you a rough idea of how it may do here for the following day, since a lot of traders use that as a means of deciding to buy or sell. But until the ACTUAL trading activity kicks into gearl and the opening bell is rung, there won't be a price change from what it closed at the previous business day.

Stocks also trade in after-hours trading, which is open for trading after the market close and before the market open. Most online brokerage sites will allow you to see the prices at which the stock is trading in after-hours trading, and you can even purchase then if you want (just beware that the market has less liquidity and may therefore be more volatile in after-hours trading)

Sure there are brokers offering pre-market and after-market orders. I use IB who offers this feature. However you have to be aware that out of regular trading hours spreads are increased!
