Answer 1:
3(x + 1) = 24
3x + 3 = 24
3x + 3 - 3 = 24 - 3 (Subtract 3 from both sides)
3x = 21
3x/3 = 21/3 (Divide both sides by 3)
x = 21/3
x = 7
Answer 2:
3(x + 2) = -9 - 2x
3x + 6 = -9-2x
3x + 2x + 6 = -9 - 2x + 2x (Add 2x to both sides)
5x + 6 = -9
5x + 6 - 6 = -9 - 6 (Subtract 6 from both sides)
5x = -15
5x/5 = -15/5 (Divivde both sides by 5)
x = -15/5
x = -3
Answer 3:
3(x + 2) = 9 + 2(x+4)
3x + 6 = 9 + 2x + 8
3x + 6 = 2x + 17
3x + 6 - 6 = 2x + 17 - 6 (Subtract 6 from both sides)
3x = 2x + 11
3x - 2x = 2x - 2x + 11 (Subract 2x from both sides)
x = 11

1) 3 ( x + 1 ) = 24
now you would use distributive property, so that means you mulitiply 3 times everything in the partenthesis.
3 x + 3 = 24
now you have to subtract three from both sides.
3 x = 21
now your dividing 3 from both sides.
x = 7
that's your answer
2) 3 ( x + 2 ) = - 9 - 2 x
now you would use distributive property on the equation on your left., so that means you mulitiply 3 times everything in the partenthesis.
3 x + 6 = - 9 - 2 x
now you combine like terms. you would add 2 x to both sides.
5 x + 6 = - 9
you combine like terms again. you would subtract 6 to both sides.
5 x = - 15
now you divide five to both sides.
x = - 3
there's your answer.
3) 3 ( x + 2 ) = 9 + 2 ( x + 4 )
now you would use distributive property, so that means you mulitiply 3 times everything in the partenthesis, and multiply 2 times everything in the parenthesis.
3 x + 6 = 9 + 2 x + 8
now combine like terms.
x + 6 = 9 + 8
x + 6 = 17
x = 11
so there's your answer.
hopefully that helped you!

The main thing you have to remember about equations,
is that whatever you do to one side, you have to do
exactly the same to the other side.
What you are trying to do with these equations is to get
x on one side of the equation and numbers on the
other side. That means you have to systematically
get rid of numbers that are attached to x.
Numbers may be attached to x by addition,
subtraction, multiplication or division.
To get rid of them, do the opposite operation.
Addition and subtraction are opposite each other.
Multiplication and division are opposite each other.
With 3(x + 1) = 24, note that 3 is a common factor of
both sides, which means we can divide both sides by 3.
We certainly want to do this because we want to detach
the 3 from the brackets. Because the 3 is multiplied by
the bracketed terms, we have to do the opposite, which
is dividing by 3. And because we're dividing one side
by 3, we have to divide the other side by 3 also.
So, dividing both sides by 3 gives : x + 1 = 8,
and we can now get rid of the brackets
because there is nothing attached to them.
Now, how do we get rid of the 1 that is added to x?
Do the opposite, which is subtracting 1.
Remember to do the same on the other side.
This gives : x + 1 - 1 = 8 - 1,
or, x = 7.
Next one is : 3(x + 2) = - 9 - 2x.
Here, we have to expand the left-hand side, by
multiplying the 3 by everything in the brackets.
This gives : 3x + 6 = - 9 - 2x.
Think how to get all the x terms on the LHS.
We have to get rid of the -2x,
so we add 2x to both sides.
This gives : 5x + 6 = - 9.
Now subtract 6 from both sides.
This gives : 5x = -15
Now divide both sides by 5.
This gives : x = - 3.
I hope you're getting the gist of this by now.
The last one is : 3(x + 2) = 9 + 2(x + 4).
Expand all the brackets to get :
3x + 6 = 9 + 2x + 8
Add up all the like terms to get :
3x + 6 = 2x + 17
Subtract 2x from both sides to get :
x + 6 = 17
Subtract 6 from both sides to get :
x = 11

first one is easy
3*(x+1) = 24
x+1 = 8 <----divided both sides by 3
x = 7
for the others, all you need to do is expand and rearrange.
3(x+2) = -9 - 2x
3x + 6 = -9 - 2x <-----expanded the left side
5x + 6 = -9 <-----moved 2x to the left (add 2x on both sides)
5x = -15 <-----subtracted 6 on both sides
x = -3
Tada! simple as that, you can check by plugging x back in.
Now try the 3rd one yourself.

when you consider that contained in the day, it climbs 7 ft, and at night it falls 3 ft, you may say it climbs +4 ft each and every 24 hours. as a result after 4 finished days, you're at sixteen ft up the tree. the subsequent day, with the preliminary climb of 7 ft, the spider makes it to the desirable of the tree.
