Actually there are dragons all over myths and cultures all over the world. Almost every culture has some sort of serpentine or dragon-like creature in it; Chinese, Japanese, Native American, Aztec, Mayan, etc. In fact, the idea of a serpentine creature that has various powers such as the power to fly, breathe fire, live under the ocean, and such is so wide spread that some consider it proof that dragons once existed. Although there has been no concrete physical evidence to prove their existence, the wide spread similarities among cultures with no communication with each other about dragons is, in my opinion, too common to be coincident.
Personally, I believe they did exist at one point. Or maybe that's just cause dragons rock. Idk. However, I believe that this commonality among cultures about creatures also spread to vampires or some sort of blood-sucking creatures.

The Chinese Dragon symbolizes Yang (light, sun, masculine) and the Chinese Phoenix symbolizes Yin (darkness, night, feminine) The Chinese Dragons are commonly symbols of good luck or health, and are also sometimes worshipped. These dragons are considered as mythical rulers of weather, specifically rain and water, and are usually depicted as the guardians of pearls. In China, the phoenix is called Fenghuang, and is the second most-respected legendary creature (second to the dragon), mostly used to represent the empress. The phoenix is the leader of birds.

There were dragons in Ancient China. But they're quite small (about the size of a medium dog, maybe) and resemble birds. I think the fire breathing part may have been made up. But scientists have def found these " DRAGONS"

Yes, I think they are like the Loch Ness Monster, a throwback to prehistoric times. A few were around, they didn't fit in and they died out. Natural Selection?

Western (European) mythology is also loaded with dragoons. For that matter, all cultures mythology is loaded dragons, of some form or another. Even native American "folklore" has its form.

It is possible that ancient people discovered the occasional dinosaur fossil and hypothesized dragons to explain them.
