There used to be a small French car called the Simca. Whatever happened to it? And -- when's the last time you saw a Yugo in operating condition?

As I remember, Simca was part of Chrysler Europe until Chrysler's financial problems in about 1978 caused them to sell that division. Evidently, the Simca was, by American standards, an undistinquished workhorse whose demise largely went unnoticed. Many years ago, I called Dyment Distributing to order a factory repair manual (you now have a choice of CD or paper). The young woman I spoke with quizzed me on some Chrysler product information. One revealing question was "why do we have all these piles of Simca manuals that nobody ever asks for?"

I actually did see a Yugo about two years ago. It was in good condition - I was suitably impressed. I think we all can take comfort that any car, regardless of its merits, has a loving following. There probably is Simca club out there.

I had a 71 Simca 25 years ago, good little car, but hard to get parts for. Rare then, extinct now :(

My daughter bought a new Yugo and drove it for 3 or 4 years, 20 years ago. You never see them anymore. :)
