Yes, smoking during pregnancy does harm the fetus. Research has also shown that miscarriage rates are higher in pregnant women who smoke.

Think of it this way - smoking is poisonous (just look at the ingredients), and what a pregnant woman inhales ends up in her fetus' bloodstream.

Please don't smoke during you're pregnancy. My mother did, and I have asthma and small lungs. It is very difficult to get through the day without my inhaler. don't subject your child to that, it's not fair. just hold of on the smoking for the pregnancy and try not to smoke around the baby too. I could never play sports to my potential, can't like anywhere with extremely dry air. its just hard... dont do it

Its not good to smoke during pregancy but quitting early enough along in your pregnancy mat cause baby to go nicotine withdrawls and possible misscarriage. I smoked through my pregnancy but cut down and I had a healthy 7lbs baby boy, he may have problems in the future but as of right now he is fine.

Smoked during 1st pregnancy -my full term baby weighed only 4 lbs. 4 oz. Smoked during my 2ed pregnancy, that child has asthma and severe ADHD. Continued to smoke, now grown daughter, who inhaled all that 2ed hand smoke, has severe allergies. Don't SMOKE. You will regret it and you'll feel terrible when you see you choose an addiction over your own babies. STOP, STOP, STOP. Do whatever it takes. Make it your number one priority.

Lack of oxygen during pregnancy can not only cause growth retardation but you could also end up with a mentally retarded child. Are you sure that you want to keep smoking when your child could turn up retarded for life?

YES!!! If you care about your child at all, ditch the cigarettes (and anything else you may be smoking...).
It can seriously damage the development of your child and cause miscarrige.
