Most politicians play to the audience, and if you watch what they say at every speech that can change dramatically. While I do credit the ones who express their faith and really seem to follow it, it depends on what they feel their faith is calling on them to do. For instance certain people of certain religions in the Middle East feel bringing on the "End Times" or "Armageddon" is what their faith demands of them, I see it as a bad thing and hope they are just making those speeches for popularity sake and not actually serious. We'll know if nukes start going off.

All politicians have to say to get support from many Christians in this country is that they are pro-life and opposed to gay marriage.
Does this mean Christians do not care about the other issues? Of course not. Or that Christians are fooled? No.
That's why there are Christians probably evenly divided between the two parties.
Christians who are socially liberal tend to be dems, and Christians who are socially conservative tend to be repubs.

I'm sure they couch their phrases to impress whichever constituency they're hoping to get votes from.
I don't think I've ever seen Bush go to church when he's not there to make a speech.
Add: Re the "Bush does, Clinton doesn't" observations--Clinton had an affair, and lied about it. Bush lied, and lied, and lied; he's responsible for thousands of deaths; he completely ignores that "judge not" instruction, as well as "love thy neighbor."

who knows... I suspect a good number just talk the talk... but I'm sure, just by sheer statistical probability, that some are truly religious and believe what they say...
but it's VERY difficult to understand exactly where any of them are coming from...

Have to agree with the Bush does, Clinton doesn't comment. I would also guess Joe Lieberman does. Most of them just say what they think we want to hear.

If they actually believe half of what they are saying they are even dumber than I thought they were and we're in more trouble than I thought we were.
