I really resent the holiday. Is it really all that bad to not like it?

No, no. I was just thinking about this today actually! I really dislike this holiday. Thanksgiving, I can take. Christmas, I hate Christmas. I hate sappy Christmas music played up until Christmas Day --and then sometimes afterward as well!! It's like Chinese water torture all the way up until Christmas Day. I was in Borders, Old Navy, Barnes and Noble, and Atlanta Bread Co. today, I could not escape the Christmas music!! And it's still November. I hate when crossing the street people nearly mow you over in their SUVs, with a fancy little wreath attached to the grill!! I hate how people sack the stores searching for gifts for people they would otherwise ignore the rest of the year. I especially dislike how people decide that Christmas is the one time to buy people they love meaningful gifts. Love and meaning should infuse everyday of one's life. Not just one day out of the year. If I see a coat or a scarf or a toy that I know a member of my family would love, I buy it then and give it to them. I don't horde it for weeks or months and then shove it in some wrapping and slap it under a tree. :( But that's me!

No, because Christmas is a commercialization of a Biblical event. There is a lot to resent about it. But if you remember "Jesus is the reason for the season" it will help.

There is a lot to LIKE about it, also!
I love Christmas music, especially the pop stuff. I don't know where Y_R_ALL is hearing so much Christmas music before Thanksgiving. I know it will be overdone before Dec 25 gets here.
I like the way everyone tries to get home and be with family and friends for Christmas.
I like the way most (at least more than usual) people are in good happy spirits, at least out in public. They seem to be more in a SHARING mood than the rest of the year.
I love Christmas foods and egg nog and presents and brightly lit decorations in every neighborhood.

I agree with Jamie R that you should look more deeply into your feelings about this. But I really haven't liked Christmas much since I was in my 20's and getting together with all my friends who were back in town. But then again, there are some things about it you can enjoy.

Why should you feel bad by hating Christmas? You must have a reason.I dont like it because its my birthday on Christmas Day and everyone gives me one present saying "this is for your birthday and christmas". Why do they think they get a holiday?
These days its a drag for anyone over seven.Plus for a lot that get sucked in a huge financial burdan. No, I dont think much of Christmas Day either, its just a Hallmark holiday. Before all the Christians get on me,remember the theory that Jesus was born on 25th Dec. has long been debunked and accepted as such by the Christian churches.Have a Happy My Birthday, anyway!(sorry)

I worked at UPS for 6 years. Every Christmas season I dreaded! Now that I no longer work there, and I have an 8 month old I'm no longer dread the holiday!

I dont think it's bad at all. Everyone has a right to feel the way they want to especially when you arent hurting anyone else. Christmas has become so commercial and it is all about buy buy buy. Plus, alot of people have had bad experiences and just dont like Christmas.

I think that varies for everyone. I don't like how people change during the holidays. They get so fussy and I don't want to go shopping or anything because I don't want to be around people like that. The weather is so depressing too. I love watching kids open presents though and that is what I like best.

I wouldn't say that it' a good thing. Maybe you should examine the reasons why you hate it? Did you have bad childhood experiences during that time?? Or maybe you are missing something else in your life that makes it harder during the holidays. But I don't really know your situation, I am in a psychology class at the moment so I thought I would suggest digging a little deeper...

Not at all...it's gotten too commercialized. It used to be my favorite holiday and now I am really starting to hate it. My husband's family and mine have agreed not to buy presents for each other, only the kids...and we get together for dinner/dessert so there is some nice fellowship. Jesus' birthday wasn't meant to be like the manufacturers have made it.

No, it is not bad to hate this holiday. However, you should not hate the true meaning of Chirstmas. Christmas has become very commercial and fake.
