It occured to me the other day that the two things I worry the most about are time and money. Two things which are given value by man. In essence they are given value by man. Time doesn't really exist, cannot truely be measured in physical terms. Money only has value because we say it does. I know this probably doesn't make much sense but tell me why you think we let these two things occupy so much of our mind.

Money is necessary for survival in these times. It is just like food for the hunter during hunting and gathering time periods. We then moved on to farming, the towns developed, then money came about. It is as simple as money occupies the survival part of our brains ( if that makes sense).

I disagree. Time is measured mathematically with a very small percent error. (it takes the earth 23 hours 56 minutes to rotate once around, not 24). Your time question is more interesting, as I never thought about why time was always on my mind. One reason I would presume is that I need to think as a human being how much money I need and I know I need children. I need to survive and I need offspring. How much time do I have for each of those things? Of course I have oversimplified everything but this is my opinion shortened.

We worry about these things because they are necessary. Acording to the Christian Bible, God created time. He used it to measure our days and weeks, and ordered people to celebrate the Sabath on a certain day. Jewish and Christian worship is governed by time, telling people what liturgical season or holiday is being celebrated.

Money is mentioned often in the Bible as well. Churches use verses in the Bible to tell their faithful just how much money they are supposed to offer "freely".

I guess that if money and time are so central to their beliefs, the faithful aren't likely to do away with thoughts of these things.

what else can we persue?

Saving time or saving stamps. We have to do something that makes us feel important.

Money accumulation is usually a measurement of how well we can avoid frivalace temptations.

It is also a hedge against temporary set backs in our income/job.

The security associated with having money is as old a the security of a strong cave.

It makes sense. I think we feel that it helps us organize our lives. Changing from this would cause mayhem and confusion, for it is a familiar system of trade and understanding.

I have no idea of what I'm saying.

Because we get caught up in the urgent rather than the important. My uncle used to say, "It's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil." ; )
