Well, those who ate did survive, so I guess to eat, or not to eat, is the dilemma you would face!

To survive in the mountains or in a cold region a survivor must have fire, water and food. If we are talking over 1-week. Without all three a week is all you will last. The order of importance is fire, then food then water. If given all three a survivor in the mountains will need one additional mental attribute and that is the Will to Survive.

Ultimately it's food, water, and shelter from the elements. If you can obtain those things, then you can live. There's no "proper" way to survive - you just do what you have to do, as they did. If you're interested in learning survival skills, there are classes; there are very few environments that don't offer some way to survive if you know what to look for.

maximum folk live to inform the tale the "landing." Secondary negative aspects come from fireplace or drowning. The slower the airplane, the further useful. (A Piper Cub is extra useful to crash in than a 747.) also, purely because an engine fails (or, contained when it comes to unmarried-engine airplanes, "the" engine) there is not any favor to panic. You discuss a "crash onto a runway if each and every of the engines have failed." that's in no way needed to crash if so -- all you want to do is elect the flow to a landing. commonly, pilots will save the equipment tucked up even as landing lower than emergency situations (like on water or difficult floor). They do it on runways, too, yet in various of circumstances that's because they forgot to placed the equipment down. that's severe priced, yet no longer in various of circumstances extraordinarily risky. Into water, you've extra complications. An airplane with the equipment down will quite somewhat continually turn over even as it hits the water. then you're disoriented, you're lower than water, and also you've been given a foul bump. in case you save your wits and would save from drowning, you'd be ok. a minimum of you're literally not on fireplace!

If you are on a commercial flight that crashes, rescuers would be on their way very quickly. The best thing to do would be get away from the wreckage and any flames and wait. Because of radar, GPS, and EPIRBs, etc. the situation in "Alive" could not happen nowadays.
