Can anyone provide a list of the world's largest industries? (Please don't just guess or give your opinion, but give a credible source for your information. Thank you!)
Someone told me they are arms dealing, tourism and English as a Foreign Language teaching. I'm just wondering if this is true and what the rest are.

I hate to even menion it and you'd be surprised to know that it's actually escort services, be it illegally in countries where it's banned or in countries where it is legal. It is actually the largest industry in the world.

Transportation - hence the Dept of Transportation.

Think if the world had no cars trucks, planes or boats.
There would be no shipment of goods anywhere but locally.
No Car builders, No boat builders, no plane builders, no commercial truck builders.
No malls, No gas stations (would not need them) No highways, back to 2 lane roads. (and horses and wagons)
In reality the world is now economical based on the fact that transportation will get goods from the seller to the buyer, grower to the buyer, etc. If say the oil (gas) ran dry tomorrow the major world economy would fail. There simply is not a viable plan to move goods without the current modes of transportation.

By the way "arms dealing" is peanuts, the major arms cost is held by countries not dealers, and Language teaching gobally is not that large either. Tourism is a large industry.

The worlds industries are dominated by the onrush of technology, especially in computers, robotics, telecommunications, and medicines and medical equipment; most of these advances take place in OECD nations; only a small portion of non-OECD countries have succeeded in rapidly adjusting to these technological forces; the accelerated development of new industrial (and agricultural) technology is complicating already grim environmental problems
