Well, depends on where. I used to be a lecturer in the UK, and there, a master's degree was the minimum. In the US, it is, too, but you could actually become a professor that way (same in Canada). To become a professor in the UK, NZ, or Australia you would need a PhD. Having said that, you don't need to have a Master if you want to be a lecturer at a Polytechnic in New Zealand. Are you confused enough now?
