when your car is running well and does not need help , try this, when the car is off , remove one spark plug wire , this will make it run rough and set off engine codes, a good mechanic will put it back on for free or a very nominal charge, a bad one will show his/her true colours, good luck.

Look on the wall of there shop and make sure you see a plaque that has an ASE Certification on it. If you do not see this walk out!
