Eleanor is a beautiful name for a girl. Emmy Jo is the one who got me thinking about the name [as it's one of her favorites]. I had never thought about it, let alone considered it. At first, I wasn't too fond of it. It just sounded a bit too dull and old-fashioned to me. But, the more and more I said it, the more appealing it sounded to me. It really rolls off the tongue and just has a lovely sound. As for wondering if it would work on a child today, I definitely think so. The "Elle" sound in girl names is quite popular today [Elizabeth, Isabelle/Isabella, Stella, etc.] Eleanor has the same nickname option of Elle, Ella and Ellie as those do [not to mention the adorable nickname Nora that it possesses.] Also, Eleanor being a bit old-fashioned definitely shows that it could fit for a little girl of today--as old-timey classics seem to be very accepted and likable, too. If I still don't have you persuaded that it would wear nicely on a child nowadays, think about this: names come in cycles, right? So, even if Eleanor is still a bit too old sounding now, chances are, it'll be up for renewal in ten-fifteen years. Even if you might get some odd looks when introducing your toddler as Eleanor, you're sure to get some pleasant reactions when introducing your teen as Eleanor. What I'm trying to say is that you picked a wonderful name 4-6 months ago, and there's no need for second thoughts. It's a gorgeous classic that will sound so refreshing amongst all the Kaylee's and Brooklyn's. Of course, if for some reason you still feel you're not completely satisfied with it, then maybe it's just not for you anymore. People's taste in names change all the time, and maybe you're just not quite digging it as much as you did. I, personally, think Eleanor is a wonderful name with tons of potential. I actually think I've just convinced myself to put it on my list of favorites! Good luck with your decision, and I hope I've helped! :] EDIT: Wow! I just found out that Diane Lane has a teenage daughter named Eleanor! I guess there are SOME celebrities that still keep it classy when naming their children! ;)
