I got really drunk a few nights ago & cracked my head on a ceramic planter. I guess I was so wasted that I hit it a few times. I have a bump about 3 inches long and an inch high on my head. I have had a headache since the morning after. At first I thought it was just the hangover, but I'm really concerned. I am numb from the neck down just the middle of my back. It kinda feels like I have icy-hot on my back. My shoulders are sore and my neck is tender. I really have a fear of doctors especially at the ER. Should I go? Should I wait? Is it possible I just bruised myself and need to give it time to heal?

Yes I already know how stupid I was to get that drunk!
Yes I know I am an idiot!
No I swear I will never drink again!

Now please tell me something I don't know. I watch a lot of TV emergency types shows & I am worried that I will have something rupture in my sleep. Silly maybe, give me some assurance that I will be ok.

Thanks in advance!

i would make an appt within the next 24 hours to be seen.

the numbess should not be present. you could have nerve damage or spinal cord damage, which can turn serious very quickly.

i read someone mention to you to shine a flashlight into your eyes-please do not have anyone do this who is not trained professionally in the medical field to do so (they are the only ones who know how to do it correctly and get the right results). i know this b/c i work in trauma icu and deal with head injuries constantly.

report to the emergency room immediately (have someone take you or call 911) if you have any of the following symptoms

-your headache becomes very severe and doesn't go away
-you begin to vomit
-you have dizziness or you feel faint
-you pass out (no matter for how long)
-your numbness begins to spread or get worse
-you have blurry vision
-you become confused or disoriented

please have yourself checked out soon-nerve injuries can be very tricky and they can get worse rapidly as can head injuries

My dear, I would have a much greater fear of what could happen to you if this IS a concussion. One of the risks of a serious concussion is that you can go to sleep one night and simply never wake up again. Another potential side effect is brain hemorraging. I would go the the ER immediately, even if you're getting ready for bed. It may save your life.

well, i would go to the emergency room, it may be a neck or back injury,,,, im not sure if a concussion would cause some of those symtoms,, and was told by daughs dr, when she was little, that if the swelling goes out, as in a bump, that is usually better and doesnt mean concussion , but an injury to your back or even your shoulder muscles can cause your neck to hurt ,,,,,, with a concussion you can get very sleepy and dizzy, but if you had drunk to much, you might not of noticed that ,,,good luck

If there's numbness I really think you should go to the doctor. I know symptoms of concussions include tiredness, nausea, and headache.

It's better to go now and see the doctor than aggravating the injury/not getting the help you need. That will mean you'll probably have to see a doctor more often.

Drinking is ok, just try not to get so drunk that you injure yourself repeatedly.

Concussions can be serious, you need to go to the emergency room if you are having numbmess. They will give you an MRI to check for internal bleeding, which can kill people that have concussions. If it is that, they will drain it for you and remove the emergency. They will also test your reflexes to test what other areas might be effected.

Have someone shine a flashlight in each eye seperately. Watch the pupil of the eye without the light in it to see if it dilates. If it doesn't, you have a concussion. If it does, you don't.

I do recommend seeing a doctor for the numbness though.

It's time to get to the emergency room; you could have a sub-dural bleed, and that's not something to mess around with.

If you take any advice take this: GO TO THE DOCTORS. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU'RE SCARED. GO. THE DOCTORS ARE NOT GOING TO KILL YOU. THEY WILL DO THE OPPOSITE. GO.
