I ended up a hasbeen but I was once an ARE
I was ridiculed by others cause I followed my own star
I could have been ,a might have been ,or a would have been by far
Though I ended up a has been,at least I was once an are
Milton Berle
I remember reading in Berle's autobiography where he would try auditioning at different nightclubs back in the forties. Everywhere he went,he was told to forget it. He just wasn't good enough to be a comedian.
His mom,a single parent ,told him not to listen to them. She told him to perfect his craft. Only you can fulfill your dream. And only you can let someone take and kill your dream. Berle's career lasted more than fifty years. Not bad for someone who wasn't very good,lol.

A "never was" which I don't see as a negative. I guess I'm thinking a "has been" was a famous person.
A "never was" has anonymity & can lead a very full life without carrying around the baggage a "has been" would have.
Can you imagine how difficult it would be for some famous people (e.g. actors) when audiences no longer want to see them? What a blow to their egos. Some people just can't get beyond their "glory" days & live in the past (& not just actors).

A never was, because there's always the chance that something amazing could happen later on, whereas if you have already had that big amazing something, you're just trying to live up to that instead. It might be the difference between being satisfied with your life no matter what happens, or always trying to live in the past. Have a happy day.
