For anything long like plays, movies, titles of books, etc., you need to use italics or underline. For anything short like poems (unless it's a really long one like The Raven), CHAPTER titles in books, specific episodes, etc., you quote. For Macbeth, you should italicize.
Difference between italicizing and underlining... you italicize ONLY and ALWAYS when you use the computer. You underline ONLY and ALWAYS when you're writing it out on paper.
Also, when you quote something, the punctuation ALWAYS ALWAYS *ALWAYS* is INCLUDED in the quotes, even if the thing you're quoting is a title of a person or something. Example:
John F. Kennedy once said that "life is unfair."
MLK started his speech with "I have a dream," which is famous worldwide.
Punctuation INSIDE....

I think either underline or italics. Before computers, the underline stood for italics, which showed up in print. Nowadays, you can put the italics in yourself, although some instructors or editors may demand the underline for manuscripts. Among other things, italics are used for the names of plays, movies, television shows, and vehicles.

RE:
Do I use the italics or do i underline the title of a play when I'm writing a commentary on it?
For example, I want to include "Macbeth" (by shakespeare) in my commentary, so do I use italics,or underline it, or just use those quotation marks? Thanks!!!

You can either put them in italics or underline (I prefer underline) . But quotations are only for short works (poems, short storys, articles...)

If the play is in a collection of other plays use quotations. If the play is in a book by itself underline it.
