(caro,Rojo)so when I was little all my cousins and aunts, uncles,
use to call me names because of that, and that got me mad. I would start to talk and they would tell me they didn't understand me, some even made me cry because I didn't know how to speak well. (My parents get mad at me because I still can't speak well, I try my best but I can't get it. What should I do? sometimes I even start crying because I can't say some words. What should I tell my friends, I have tried to do every thing to make them stop laughing at me because how I talk.

There is not really anything I know of that can make your family and your friends stop making fun of you. I have withstood ridicule all my life. The way I made it through those times was to learn to like and accept myself and to just overlook thier insensitivties to others. If you really can not change the way you talk then you have to just learn to accept that fact and stop getting your feelings hurt by thier words. With your friends just laugh with them and know that they really do like you. People tend to tease others about thier differences. If they weren/t teasing you because of your speech they would tease you because you were fat, or short, too tall, or any other thing about you that wasn't like them. You should tell your family that it hurts to be constantly reminded of your speech differences and then let it go and hope and pray that they will let up after a while.

Since you are still in school, there should be a school councellor that you could go to to talk about your problem. Maybe there is a speech therapist that could help you. You need to do something to build up your self esteem. I know that God answers prayer. Commit yourself to a relationship with God and ask for His help to overcome this. I have heard of people that God used to speak His Word, in natural life they were stutterers. When they begin to speak the Word of God, their speech is perfect. Moses even had problems speaking. God really can help you with all your problems!
Have you tried to work with a tape recorder or video camera to help yourself improve your speaking? I think if you try reading aloud also it might help. Just go somewhere alone and take some time to practice.

I have an accent and it is unacceptable to the people I live with because they want someone to take it out of me. They keep telling me that I was born in the US and that means I shouldnt have an accent so if I dont stop talking that way they will start ignoring my accent and tell people that I dont have it.

Mom even asked the police to find out why I speak with an accent and he said
"She's a foreigner"
to which mom said that she didnt know.

At times I feel embarrassed to speak out loud and at home I am not encouraged to do so. Mom keeps telling me to say my prayers in my head and she will do the same in hers.

..... try practicing on easy,.. 2 syllable word's first, about 10 or 15 minute's a day, then after a week, maybe increase it to 3 syllable word's, then 4, then 5, etc.... Keep practicing this for 3 to 4 week's, and see if there's any improvement.... If there's not, phone around town on speech therapist's price's, and give them a bit of a shot at it.... They should be able to get you on track o.k.

Ya know what..I have a different thought, My friends and I laugh WITH each other when someone slips up and pronounces a word wrong . Why dont you try laughing with them and saying well tell me how to say it right then..And listen close..They are gonna slip up too, just wait. and when they do..Well you know the rest. Try not to take life so seriously. I mean its not like they dont want to hang out with you cuz you talk funy, they just get a kick out of it, you are unique.. Enjoy..:Life is too short

Just take it with a grain of salt. Dont look into it too much. People will generally find anything they can to build themselves up, including bringing others down. Since they are your friends they may not know how much it bothers you. Im Native American and my best friend calls me Tonto. I know its out of love, and so it doesnt bother me, but if someone else said it it would.

well, i dont think it matters wether a person as an accent or if they cant pronounce a word right. ask ur friends how it would feel to be in ur shoes. ask them what it would fell like to be taunted because of ur accent, and how it would feel if ur parents got angry because u couldnt speak well. they will understand and eventually stop teasing you. if they dont, they shouldnt be ur friends anymore. i think theyre just plain rude. and tell ur parents that ur trying. not everyone is perfect. personality is what really matters, not if u cant speak english well.

Sorry. This is going to sound really ****** up, but this is my opinion. Honestly...**** them. They are not real friends. The way you speak is part of you so if they can't handle that then just forget about the. Stop caring about what other people think of you...it's not good.

They laugh because of the reaction they receive from you. From now on, tell yourself that the way you pronounce words are the CORRECT way. They will soon figure out that your confidence in yourself is unwavering and will respect you for it.

Maybe try telling them how hard you have worked on your speech, and it really hurts your feelings/bothers you that they make fun of you for it. If they continue, maybe it would be better to distance yourself from them. If they care for you, hopefully they will see how much it truly bothers you and stop.
