A mother and her two small children in North Harris County, in Texas, were attacked and mauled today. One child died. What are we going to do to stop this ? I have a few ideas, but it's illegal. I don't know about anyone else out there, but what if it was YOUR child ?

one dog was killed right there ,by police, and the other was taken somewhere. Also, it is so scary to me. These are dogs that are SOLID body mass. They are fast, and they have jaws that are built different from other dogs. Adults don't have a lot of chances against them, much less a small child. And owners don't really know that their dog isn't going to turn on them . But, I'm not worried about you. I'm worried about Granny trying to go to the mailbox, or a child waiting for the schoolbus, etc.....

Not too many years ago I was attacked by a rottweiler & know how tramatic it can be. I live in the province of Ontario, Canada.
After too many attacks here the Provincial Government banned pit bulls & all other dangerous breeds of dogs. It is now illegal to breed them. The owners of the existing dangerous breeds of dogs must have them neutered, on an appropriate leash & they must be muzzled when in public. Violators face severe penalties & fines for noncompliance. Hopefully within a few years in this area they will be non existant.
There were all kinds of protests from the dog owners & breeders but in the end all it took was for the Provincial legislators to listen to what the majority of the people not only wanted, but demanded.
Start an on-line petition. E-mail every politician & newspaper editor in the state if you have to & have your friends do the same. Drive them nuts in every way you can & sooner or later they'll get the message. The more people you involve the sooner you'll get results. You can make a difference & all it will cost you is your time.
Good Luck.......

Excuse me for saying so, but you are extremely ignorant. Dogs are not born bad, people shape them into what ever they end up to be. I have known one particular sweet hearted pit bull named Cleo. She was horribly abused and neglected by her owners, but you would never know it. When she was adopted from a rescue by my mom's friend, she was so sweet natured that I could lay with her and pet and kiss her all over, and all she did was kiss me back, and I was only about 5 at the time. On the other hand, I was once mauled by an equally abused miniature Italian greyhound. Even though Cleo was just as abused as Simba, Cleo never even growled. While Cleo's personality was able to recover, can you ever really blame a dog for not being able to get past the emotional and physical trauma of being starved, trained to fight, and probably neglected and abused in a thousand other different ways? If your child was treated like that and then got in a fight, would you want to kill it? Dogs aren't the problem, the monsters that abuse them are, and maybe the mother should have had enough sense to get the dog off of her child. Please don't condemn animals that you don't know when you don't even know the story behind it. Its people like you that have dogs that have been horribly abused killed every day just because people have mistreated them.

This won't stop until the liable owners are put to death instead of the dog (who is just doing what dogs do).
I understand your fear and anger, but I have to tell you that it is seriously misguided. I've met pitbulls that were more docile than golden retrievers. Why were they so docile? Because their owners were good people that did not teach the dogs to fear others not in their "pack."
Yes, I said "pack", dogs are pack animals and when a human is in the pack, they are usually considered alpha (the boss). So what the two-legger says/feels is what goes.
My sister was attacked by a german shepherd when she was a little girl. Should we start putting sheps to sleep? Then who will help the police sniff out drugs or the blind to cross the street?

Pit Bulls are vicious by nature I think. Although you can train them, it is in there blood. I am from a part of the country, were pitbulls are normal. I have been chased by a few, so I know what Im talking about. If it were my child, I make sure that dog was put to sleep.

lots more pit bulls are nice dogs its just the owners. Also if someone enters the dogs territory without its owner then the dog cant be held responsible! However i do agree that if the owner isnt responsible enough to have the dog then the dog should be taken!

There is no such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners.Pit bulls are not inherently vicious. They are TRAINED to be vicious by their owners.Statistically speaking, German Shepard's are more likely to turn on their owners that pit bulls. An aggressive dog is usually the result of an abusive owner, an un neutered animal and/or poor socialization as a puppy. Those reasons apply to ALL breeds of dogs.To this day, the nastiest dog I ever encountered was a Chow.So as we say in my city "Don't blame them, train them!"*And just so you know, I had gotten my dogs( they were not litter mates) when they were puppies, and I felt perfectly comfortable when my son played with them.*

I totally understand this but the pit bulls should not be blamed. The responsibility lies with the owner of the dog.And believe me if it was my child I would also have a few illegal ideas of my own but they would be directed to the owner not the dog!

If my child was mauled by a dog, ANY dog, that dog would be put down, and it's corpse tested for rabies. After that, especially if the dog was a pure-bred (traceable ancestry and etc) I would want to look up the dog's littermates, and warn their owners of the possible danger.

It's not the dogs that are the problem; it's the ppl raising them.
Honestly, I'm more worried about the all the babies killed by abortion.
It's all a sign that too many ppl have really bad judgement and don't care about kids much at all.

i have dealt with many-a-tale such as yours. so a techniques as prying the jaws, it form of feels you've received adequate perception on that. possessing diverse dogs will be a chore, i comprehend. :) and that i'm conscious that you're experienced with searching after a diverse canines family contributors. Congrats on your compassion and dedication to fostering. I purely pick to say, in spite of the evaluations of others, that it won't be able to get any extra useful with the battling. If those 2 have wide-spread this type of habit with one yet another, no longer something, no longer even praying, is going to override the instinct of a canines. For what ever reason, those 2 do purely not get alongside. and in view that they have been in diverse fights, you would possibly want to be properly attentive to the consequences. And it purely takes purely a million time for it to be deadly. Denial of the topic is what receives the owner into worry. Please both attempt to locate between the animals yet another abode or save them separated. although, separation takes dedication and consistency. i have dealt with an proprietor who tried to save the dogs separated, yet finally they bumped into one yet another and the proprietors elected to euthanize the instigator....the different one we tried to administration, although the injuries were purely too extreme. regrettably, the different puppy did not make it both. purely be able to keep in mind that attempting to artwork it out isn't contained in the perfect interest of the animals or you....be careful even as breaking apart a strive against! continually comprehend that there's a severe danger you'd be bitten. dogs are literally not worried about you even as contained in the mist of doing so. canines bites are NASTY and continually require antibiotics. reliable luck....i'm sorry you've this type of handful at the moment!
