Funny you asked this question... I just came across a question asking "what is the most serious problem in the world?" Well, just what you brought up, I think that's the most serious problem. This generation of teenagers with no respect, morale, or character is the group of people that will run this country one day. What do you think this world will come to? I don't think it will be good. I am close to your age and I find it shocking how some of the younger group acts. One (small) example that really shocked me just the other day was when I was walking into the grocery store and a group of teenage boys slammed the door on an elderly woman. Whatever happened to the days of holding the door open for people and respecting your elders? Apparently, that's been thrown out and "something of the past". Another shocker was seeing a 12 year old wearing a tube top with a birth control patch in plain view. I'm with you--WHERE are the parents?! I think this world is going to hell anyhow... it is getting further and further away from the values that this country was based on. It all starts with family values and a lot of families lack any values whatsoever. Kids live in a world where everything is given to them and nothing is worked for. Not to mention, a lot of kids (or adults) can't even distinguish between right and wrong....not to get too political or 'religious' here, but would abortion and same sex marriages be accepted 50 years ago? I highly doubt it.
And I agree with you about 'being blinded by MTV and movie stars'. Teenage girls are growing up believing that anorexia is necessary to be beautiful or it's okay to be married 5+ times. What does that teach about loving yourself and being committed? Not to mention, another thing I've found is "being gay is cool". This seems to be a trend nowadays, especially among teenage girls. It's something I will never understand....
Geesh, I could go on forever about the issue. Fact is, a lot of the younger generation is morally confused and lack any values whatsoever. It won't change until our society stops accepting what is wrong. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time soon.

It has a lot to do with the fact that parents can seldom be home to raise their children because they both work and then are too tired and stressed to deal with the complex issues that kids have to face now, like drugs, alcohol, sex, violence, etc...
It seems that the only stuff that gets aired on television, computers and radio is controversial - the weirder and more far out the better. This is what they are exposed to. It seems that there are no limits on behavior - as long as you don't get caught. Cheating in school is normal and average.
I think another big contributor is reality programming and talk shows. Every weirdo and nutcase goes on telivision and spouts off about their strange proclivities. Then, the kid at home who thinks "hey, I'm like that" has someone else saying it's normal. Remember when homosexuality was abnormal and shocking, well now it's considered okay by most of the population. It was a very good marketing plan I must say.

I'm 13 and I feel the same way..
I personally hate all the wannabe thugs who yell back to the teachers and their parents... It's kind of funny but it really disturbes my learning...
I actually want educations and a good job is secondary, no one in my school except for some one my friends and others, have no morales. They don't value honor or anything, they steal, lie, tease others including the mentally ill (pyschosis)... Kinda sad.
However I'm not all that perfect either, I'm lazy and talk back to some teachers just usually I'm a pretty discplined person, never steal... Or lie (Well serious lieing, I just lie as a joke, but those are pretty obivous)..
I think this is just going to get worse, because most parents are afraid of disciplining their children due to the child protection laws. You can't discipline your child except for "grounding" or else they'll just scream child abuse.. Sick.. But if parents raised their kid right when they were YOUNG this kind of punishment wouldnt even be needed..
Thank god I'm joining the military, I don't have to work with bunch of immature thugs, or at least I hope they grow up... Because seeing a kid act like a thug is one thing, but seeing their grow up to be a failure when they are 30 is horrible..

I'm 24, and I 100% agree with you. Part of it is the parents, part society, and part is that kids will be kids.
I had a strict up bringing with good loving parents and church and curfews and all that, but I didn't become a truely good moral person until like halfway through college. I couldn't imagine trying to work on my morals if I had problems at home...
But our socicety is heading in a downward spiral in that department for sure, makes ya wish we were from the 50s huh?

Regrettably I have to agree with you even with my own peers (I'm 24) I see an immature idolism of bad behavior like it is cool to steal, cheat, lie and backstab one another. Noone gives a dam about anyone anymore I think its sad. And when it comes to character these kids have the backbone of an earthworm. I am sometimes ashamed of my generation.

I totally agree with you, with all the media targeting kids nowadays, and parents not often being there to discipline their kids it's not suprising that generation of kids today have much lack of respect and trust to their parents. They become very independent that they just trust their friends completely by technology like emails, chat rooms and phone all the time.

At least part of the problem is parenting. One parent should stay home with the kids. the family should eat meals together. the children learn from what you do when you don't know they are there.

discipline is the key to morales and most people do what they feel like instead of thinking about cause and effect. Hang in there and do what is right
