Political parties run this country and each one has its own agenda. That is what they are. A set of values that politicians go by to influence their votes. If issues like abortion and illegal immigration were voted on and actually solved we would no longer need the political parties right? Take abortion. If a law were enacted to legalize all abortions the issue would no longer need to be voted on and politicians would no longer use it as a tool to get votes. So if they actually started voting and solving issues like that, they would have nothing to run on and would be, well obsolete. This is why issues either have nothing being done with them, or just little parts get voted on because the party liners need them to get your votes. This is why I feel the country is so divided and also why I feel political parties have to GO! What do you all think?

I agree there will always be needs, but it still doesn't take away the fact that our leaders in office only agree when it comes to voting on their own raises. Something has to be done.

Unfortunately I feel a third party would be no better than the two we have. Buisness must be seperated from politics, and the new party would take money from them just like the other two and become biased and not for the people anyway.

Miss Advent, I will ignore your hurtful remark. There is nothing dishonorable about questioning ones leaders in a free country. It is a right that I, and millions of others have fought to protect.

Thank you for sharing your epiphany with modern day politics. I once had the highest regard for our political powers based on what I learned from the history of our founding fathers as we all have learned and I have come to the same conclusion. The reality of the matter is that politics is everything whether we like it or not. The stroke of a pen from a leader represents a decision for the masses even if the paperwork does not represent our thoughts and beliefs to the fullest extent. That is why we must stay on top of the game and elect our leaders as skillfully as possible. Knowing your political roots and being able to distinguish between the issues is a self taught philosophy that your social standing forces you to entertain. Be patient. Be informed. Inform others. We shall overcome!!

Your question is thoughtful and well stated but I don't believe it would ever fly in America. Now I am not schooled in political science, but to do what you propose would be a total revamping of everything, all traditions this country was founded on. The two party system does not work very well in my opinion, and I have very little faith in pro politicians. A possible non-disruptive fix would be to demand a viable 3rd party. So far, the big 2 have made it near impossible for a 3rd party to be viewed as a possibility. I have my own reasons for why I think they are doing this but that matter not at the moment. Issues change, people change and their views change from one to the other. Heck, my political outlook changed drastically after I enlisted in the military. In high school, I was going to protest marches, sit-ins, all that anti-establishment stuff. But then I got out in the really real world and got a firsthand look at other cultures and other governments and realized how good home really was. I became someone vastly different. My point is that people change and issues change. It isn't likely that an issue voted on, decided on and put to rest will stay that way. Sorry for being so long-winded...

Youre only half right. See it doesnt matter if the current problems get solved because I belong to a school of philosophy that believes that no matter how much you do theres always something to be done. Even if there were no big issues to deal with, we could always create a problem and a solution to it. It's the same thing as tying this back to my questions about communism. The person told me there would be people that would lie cheat and steal to get themselves more wealth and power over the other citizenry and then there would need to be people to oppose them and we would end up in a system much like the one we have now. It just happens that being in a state of flux is status quo for humanity. We are an ever changing organizm so just let the change happen and dont sweat it.

Im somewhat with you, however the reason for the structure of government is that there is need for checks and balances of power.
The biggest danger of a democracy is by the people themselves.... more specifically the majority suppressing the rights of the minority.
So if there was a straight up and down vote on all these issues when would they be solved? In one election? What if it was settled 51% to 49%. The 49% would have to live with something they feel is immoral or unjustified indefinitely.
Lets say the issue being voted on was african americans in universities. If enough people voted to keep blacks out of schools then it would be law. This is unconstitutional. This is one long winded example of why our govt is structured how it is. Hope this helps.

I think you've got it right. Sure, everybody has an agenda. But that is politics. I think that the problem may go deeper than that. The country is so split on the really big, moral issues that its not really completly politicians fault. Sure, they don't help the situtaion, but untill we as a country can choose one side, we will always be divided and there will always be a need for political parties. It's the ****** up, but beautiful thing that is america.

Political parties do run this nation. They love hot topics and they try to use them in whatever way they can. Local Massachusetts politicians thought that Mass. was ready for gay marriage, but the reprecussions nationally were that constitutional ammendments were ratified in certain states. special referendums made it onto ballots so republicans really rocked that vote. The war was their issue, or so they thought, until they got stale.
Things get done. Why? Because there's at least some moderation, every 2-4-6 years. I say, no more representative democracy! We vote on anything we deem important. We vote in reps., we write our reps., they draft legislation, we vote.

As long as we allow the politician to write the budget & other laws so that they aren't accountable we will keep getting the S___ you discribe. They will argue alot for show, party on our dollars, laugh at us for being so easily manipulated into calling them LEADERS. Few presidents in my life time have lead. Eisenhower, JFK, & Reagan were exceptions.
As long as our system is a winner takes all even when one wins with less than 50% of what ever standard you went into the election based on any 3rd party will just be a soiler for the underdog. No way to take out the just fight for show parties.

Yes it does seem to be a way so to speak to keep things going. A vicious circle....a reason for senatorial governmental being! LOL ...I must also pose this query, why do we as a country endure such debt when we have mathematical geniuses out there? It all seems as if the government finds a way to justify its existence! Granted there are some institutions that are "really" needed but I can't help to agree with you on this one....resolution! Yes that would be fantastic but then we would have no reason for the sorry excuses for senators, governors, etc to get paid oodles of tax dollars!!!

Most Americans dont get involved with politicswe only get about a 45% turnout at the polls
Funny thing is this is why they bought up the draft bill in congress
Charles Rangel wanted to get Americans to wake up and notice what was going on. He figured if there was a draft and everyones son or daughter might have to go to war then People would pay more attn to the war

I'm for a one party system of Government. Namely a return to the original platform of the Federalist Party and the original core values and principals envisioned by the founding fathers.
