depends also on whether or not your house has lightning protection, most newer houses do...and since water from the garden variety shower is chock full of mineral deposits, yes lightning can fry you...only distilled water is safe to bathe in, since there are no minerals in it...pure water is an insulator, water from your shower is not exactly pure, so the shock travels thru the suspended mineral particles.

Yes it is true. In fact, grounding electricity can move miles farther than where the lightning struck. Meaning, you could be a mile away from a lightning strike, and it still zap the hell out of you while you are taking a shower. - Baths are worse.. But I also heard of "Zappings" While urinating during a thunderstorm... Not very fun to hear, but things happen.

Assuming you're showering indoors and are enclosed, you won't be able to in any respect be immediately hit by utilising a bolt of lightning. Your ecosystem, and extremely probably you, will act because of the fact the "grounding" of the electrical powered modern-day. The lightning will stick to the main condusive and closest direction to "floor." in case you're actually not touching any of the enclosure (different than for the floor) then the electrical powered capability could ought to "leap" from our environment it initially struck to you. it extremely is very no longer likely because of the fact air has an exceedingly extreme resistance. The resistance of the fabric utilized on your ecosystem (ie.. wall, roof) would be plenty decrease and could reason the lightning to stick to that direction to "floor." in case you're keeping directly to a minimum of something, such because of the fact the metallic take care of of the faucet, then there's a stable probability lots of the electrical powered capability will locate its way with the aid of your physique to "floor," wherein case, sure, you may nicely be laid low with lightning at the same time as interior the bathe. Is it adequate to kill you? genuinely. Is it very probably? Heck no. there are various different products that create a shorter and extra condusive direction to floor than your place, your bathe and you. case in point a strike will extra very easily happen in telephone or electric powered poles, your pals satellite tv for pc dish or television antenna, the 60 foot extreme o.ok.tree outdoors your window, and so on.. Your answer, finally, is not any it extremely is no longer risky. The probability only isn't extreme adequate. Ethan: thank you for offering some chilly problematical information. that extremely exhibits the very almost negligible odds of being struck by utilising lightning. Now think of, of all of the places you should be, what are the probabilities you would be interior the bathe? lol.. thank you for the help too.

Whichever answer(s) you accept, for God's sake don't listen to those telling you that it's all just a myth!!!!! A cousin of mine was killed while taking a shower during a thunderstorm. Lightning can easily penetrate a few feet into the earth where plumbing is and follow it right into your house, bathroom and shower.

By the way...it's okay to talk on the phone as long as the phone is either a wireless handset or a cellphone.

That's a really good question. I watched a episode of Mythbusters that confirmed that the electricity COULD travel through the copper pipes and kill someone. However they said it was only likely to happen in a old house.

Read about it here:

I've always heard that. I think it has something to do with the lightning being able to electricute you while you are in the water.
