Technically, break dance is an adverb, so you need to stick a real past tense verb or predicate in there. It's either "break dance" or "break dancing". Example:
He used to break dance back in the 80's.
The birth of break dancing was 20 years ago .

in proper english the is no past tense of the word just the way it is said in a sentence i use to break dance in my younger years or break dancing was fun back then

Is it analagous to tap dance, or lap dance? Would you say: "Some people tap danced their way to fame, while some lap danced their way to fortune.
But you're right, it seems odd to say "He break danced yesterday."
