my son is almost ten weeks old, his formula has been switched 8 times. the only formula that kinda works for him is Isomil. he drinks a little(less than a ounce) then will not take anymore, he spitups just a little(mostly through his nose) he's fussy (mainly at night) he does not sleep well..anyone else had this problem..and yes i have tried mixing cereal with his formula( for all you nasty repliers he digests it just fine) and i know all about not feeding him cereal until 6 months, but i had to do something, because otherwise he will not eat it...his ped thinks it might be Acid Reflux..any advice?

My son had the same problem. I started him on Similac and then Isomil. The Isomil was a little better but his dr. suggested putting him on Alimentum. It's a lot more money but it's well worth it and after a day he was like a different baby!

Sounds like it could be acid reflux. My son had it and was switched to Similac Alimentum Advance formula (which worked great for him--but the doctor put him on that because of a milk allergy). Does his spitting up seem to be painful for him? Do his spit up and breath smell like acid? Is he difficult to get to burp? Does he arch back when drinking his bottle? Those were some of the other symptoms my son had. His doctor prescribed Zantac. That seemed to help some. Also, over the counter gas relief drops (Mylicon) might help a little too. Keeping him in an upright position might help. I let my son sleep in his car seat almost all the time. (But please ask your doctor before trying it.) He slept much better than being flat on his back. That's about all I have in the way of advice. I hope your son feels better soon.

Wew! I know how you feel! However, my son pretty much stuck with the Isomil. You could talk to your pediatrition about possibly prescribing Zantac. It'll help help a little bit (makes them a little more comfortable but didn't seem to stop spitting up). From my personal experience though...unless your son is not gaining weight well, I wouldn't worry too much about it. My son outgrew his problems around 11 months.

Try getting him a sleep wedge. It really helps my son. Also, there is another formula called Enfamil AR. It already has rice starch in it and thickens in their stomachs, helps keep it down.

There's also this stuff that I use called Colic Calm Gripe Water. It absorbs the acid in his tummy and also helps with gas. I think it really works wonders, and, I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but it kept him from having to go on Zantac.

I'd get another pediatrician. If it IS acid reflux, they should be able to help. My daughter was lactose intolerant and ended up on goats milk. But even with the cereal, he needs the nourishment he gets from formula. Good luck !

Where you taking acid reflux med while carrying him because this can effect him also. I found out the hard way.
Isomil worked best for my child also but after the third month I was able to change to regular Enfimil.

it could be. you might have to try a special mattress that keeps them upright at night. or you can put pillows under your regular mattress. they tell you not to give them cereal because children that young can choke easily because their swallow reflex is not developed.
