My son is 11 and loves those action figures. His favorites are the 6" ones that he can battle with. He also loves walkie talkies and music cd's. Billy Gilman is a good singer for kids that like country and anything that has decent language would be okay. Kids Bop is also great sing along music for kids.
A sketch book and a handheld yatzee game.Pizza and movie passes. Video games are too expensive if you don't really know the person and the switchblade idea ( oh brother ) is a definite FORGET IT!!!

Get him a 20Q It's a hand held electronic game that can guess what you're thinking. It already comes with batteries that last a very long time. They have many new versions of this game, sport, music. They retail for 9.99 to about 29.99 The original 20Q you can get at Target for the 9.99 I think it's still the best one for anyone 8yrs.& up.

legos , magnetix, star wars, race car set, sports trading cards, can't really get video games if you don't know if he has a gaming system or not. Maybe a football, soccer ball, books.
