assuming the polynomial is set up as: ax^2+bx+c, figure out what the factors of the last term, 'c' are. then try to figure out if any combination of addition or subtraction of these factors yield the middle term 'b'. example: x^2+5x+6. the factors of 6 are 1, 6 and 2, 3. both sets of factors can yield a middle term of 5, 6-1 and 2+3, however, since all terms of the polynomial are positive, both of the factors should be positive, thus the solution is (x+2)(x+3). if the polynomial was x^2-5x+6 it would yield (x-2)(x-3).
