the south was colonized by the french and spanish. the english colonized new england. Penslvanya was colonzed by the dutch and germans.

That would be the Austrailians. Most people believe the accent in the Southwest came from a clash of German and French influences (think Loiusiana purchase).

There are some towns in Texas today that still speak German (like New Brownsfield [Braunsfeld]) for instance.

No, here in the South we get out accents from a combination of Black African Americans who raised most of the children in the old days, English and Spanish - soft and slow.
