Marxist think everyone should be equal and contribute to the common good. Sort of like if everyone worked for free because it is good for the community. I suppose a high brow Marxist would think that this way of thinking is better than how somebody else would approach life.

Marx wrote lots of stuff, but the Communist Manifest is interesting and a fairly short read.

Marxism is an intellectual exercise for many, and fashionable in certain universities even today. So a "high brow" Marxist would be one that is into socialism/communism from an educated, intellectual basis. This is ironic in that it is supposedly a "working man's" politics. Of course, it is not: it is another method to take advantage of the average Joe who just wants to be paid a decent wage for the job he does, take care of his family and be left alone.

In some schools, you may hear the term "Continental Philosophy" bandied about, usually in contrast to something called "Analytical Philosophy." Continental is often being used as a euphemism for Marxist.
