You really don't want to jump start a car from another car. The surge created when the car being jumped starts can damage or destroy your car's computer. Thats why you see the towing companies using the small booster boxes, not jumping form the vehicle. I would suggest purchasing one of those. Instead of jumper cables.

It is a good idea to have one car running and a good pair of car cables make sure your cables on the Right way when you jump a car that needs a jump. make sure you put both cables on the bad battery and the other side make sure you put the negative to the body of the car so you don't hurt the computer's on the car.

1. First: Clean the battery posts AND cable connections. When jumper cables are connected they bypass your battery because they are connected to the battery cable clamps and not the posts so-- if the connections are loose, dirty and not making contact - there will be no battery contact with the cables. 2. check the battery voltage with a digital meter -- full charge is 12.66 V - engine off. 3. If less than 11.0V charge the battery with an automatic portable chager NEVER the cars system unless it is an emergency. Vehicle systems were never designed to charge a moderately discharged batt - and - even then it takes 100 miles of driving. If you get the vehicle running - check the voltage - post to post - with all acessories ON. reading should be 13.8 to 14.5V if the alternator is working properly.

You can jump start a car straight from a battery with standard car cable as long as both the cables and the battery are quality, and the battery is fully charge.

Standard jumper cables will work for this. The heavier the wire guage the better. The only reason that the car supplying the power should be running is so that you don't deplete it's battery to the point it won't start! :-)=
