Thanksgiving is about Thanking God for the GIFT of having those who care about us and are willing to give us a helpful hand (and share the bounty of the harvest) when we need it most.

It's about the Pilgrims thanking God, but I don't think it was and established holiday until Abe Lincoln said so.
