Oh, but there is still a lot of great country out there. It just is not played on mainstream country stations. Check out magazines like "No Depression". Look for artists like Billy Joe Shaver, Willie Nelson, Slaid Cleves, Shooter Jennings, Jessi Colter, Bobby Bare Jr., Robert Earl Keen, Kelly Willis, Niko Case, Bruce Robison. Look for alternative country CDs that have tributes to the Carter Family and you will find current country artists that have not sold out. You may not have heard of them, but you will find yourself wondering why you haven't. Also look for Americana artists. Go to your local record store, preferably not a chain and ask them. Also, go to a large bookstore and look through the magazines in the music section usually located in the music section itself) for some ideas. You should be able to find some great Americana compilation CDs so that you can hear a bunch of different artists at one time and then branch out from there. Hope this helps.

Becasue the people that get the record deal's have to give in to the record company and do what they want to make it on t.v and radio or they dont get signed. Also the whole sex sells thing has blown music to a new level,if you have a good video you can sell records even if the songs not all so great. It's became more of what sells and whats hot over what sounds good and talented.

There are still a few who still do it right. But I agree with some who say all music has gone this way. My kids listen to a bunch of the "new rock" that has no talent whatsoever! Most of it is just re-doing some old song from the 70's. Of course, it ALL started with the no-Talent wanna-be singer Rpa stars. Just take someone elses song and "Talk" over it...Instant rap singer! LOL

The mainstream of pretty much every genre is being produced, created, and broadcasted by the same people. Naturally, it's all going to pretty much sound the same.

That doesn't mean that there's nothing good out there. It's just that the cookie-cutter bands tend to get the exposure.

Yeah, no kidding. Most 'punk', 'goth', 'emo,' 'rock', and 'country' bands today aren't. MTV sucks. There are still lots of good new bands if you know where to look, or don't mind spending half a day scouring a used media store. ;)

I totally agree with you. There are only a few true country artists left. If you ever go to a country concert, the encores are always rock songs. Country singers of today couldn't make it in Rock Noll, so they chose Country.

It is all so watered down. I'm very open to anything new. I was flipping thru channels last night and caught some old dude with an electric guitar on CMT doing a bland watered down song. I waited till the song was over to see the credits.....it was Bob Segar ( I'm so ashamed).

I know what you mean. Musically they are just trying to make it pleasant to a broader audience but when that happens their is a compromise in the authenticity of the music genre. I am not that much of a country fan but I doe love blues and there are a lot of similarities. It would be just disgusting if they did that to the blues so I feel ya.

I do. Country music used to be good, and it used to be different from the other pop stuff. Now, any country song on the radio sounds like you could hear it on American Idol.

I agree. It's been that way since the 1980's. All it is is bland ballads and sing-along pop crud for teenage girls from Kansas, and it all sounds EXACTLY the same, and the lyrics are elementary and thoughtless. Formulaic, horrible, makes my eardrums bleed. A fourth-grader could write more complex, original music.
