i own a repair shop, and find a gravel road or a slick spot, and see if it will spin in 2 wheel drive, and if yes lock it in 4 wheel drive, and it shouldn't spin,, that's the easiest way to do it,,good luck.

Use 4 good jack stands and put your car on them. Start it up and put it in drive. If all 4 wheels spin, your good to go. If it has a switch leave it in 2 wheel firs then go to 4.

I do what the "dodge man" does. I don't work in a shop anymore and don't have the facilities I used to, so I have to improvise. I just worked on my Toyota and did the same basic procedure. I went to a nearby dirt boat ramp. I drove in forward to the bottom. The in 2wd I tried to get back up in reverse ( to keep the load on the front of the truck), and noted which tires were turning by the ruts in the dirt. I went back down again, I put it in 4wd and repeated. It works and it's more fun than setting it up on jacks. Lucky for me I had fixed it or I'd still be at the bottom of that ramp, ha ha.

P.S. Also much easier than dropping the rear drive shaft. K.

Put the car up on jacks all four tires up in the air. Then turn car on put it in 4wd see if all tires spin then you will know some vehicles it takes a few minutes before it kicks in.

find a big object to put in front of your front wheels so that when you pull up to it in 2 wheel you cant move then put it in 4 wheel and see if you can climb over it

put it in 4wd, drive it around the block, the pull the rear drive shaft and see if you move....DONT DRIVE AROUND, JUST SEE IF IT MOVES!!!! I dont want to be misconstrued and see you do damage. This technique may be crude but it works.
