Well, these days, its about the money. But some of these bowls have been around for years, created as a means to showcase some of the smaller schools and conferences that couldn't get into or weren't invited to a bigger bowl. Look at the Sun Belt conference. This year, I think there are 28 bowl games. Do you know how many bids the Sun Belt is allotted? One. Out of 56 teams that will be playing in bowls this year, only one comes from the Sun Belt. Some teams just want to have a chance to play a postseason game, even if it is in a "cheap" bowl that almost on one cares about.

It seems senseless to send a 6-6 team to a bowl game. 6-5 is better but if the NCAA is going to allow a 12 game season then I think that they should also require teams to win 7 games to become 'Bowl Eligible' so the minimum record would be 7-5. I am not sure how that would effect the numbers but it would eliminate some of the bowls and make the other that much more meaningful.

Tell that to the alumni of some smaller school in a bowl game. Some people like their school and just want to watch them play, and the holiday season is a perfect time to just kick back and watch a whole bunch of football. I like all the games, lets face it not all these programs can have good teams, if we have only 5 bowl games, we'll see the same teams over and over again. USC, OSU Irish,FSU, Miami, be serious. Theres so many colleges. To much focus on who's the best, obviously there should be a playoff, but what's wrong with co-champs?

Yeah, unfotunately it is about money. As much as I like football, I fondly remember the days when being invited to a bowl actually meant you were a GOOD team. The bowl system is so watered down now that there is no sense of honor in being selected.

I am from Iowa and a Hawkeye fan. The fact that our 6-6 team is going to the Alamo Bowl is a complete farce.

You're absolutely right. In the 60s it was the Rose, Sugar, Cotton and Orange. Then Gator and Hula came along. Then the Tangerine? The biggest of late, I guess, is the Fiesta Bowl, but it's further confused by the sponsors who attached themselves to the bowl name. But, that aside, there are so many bowls played that a team can go in with a 6-5 record. Ridiculous.

I think there should be no bowl games and that they should make a eight team playoff.

Like 1 vs. 8
2 vs.7
3 vs. 6
4 vs. 5
Then we would have no problems with the BCS and that other bull crap!

I disagree they should have a couple of big bowls then small bowls, because its some of these players last time ever playing football u might as well give them a bowl game.

I'm gonna have to disagree, some of these not-so-good teams need the bowls for financial and recruiting reasons

i disagree, bowl games r rewards r good teams that dont stand a chance against the bigger schools. u dont think a boise state r rutgers should be rewarded for a job well done. and it gives fans a chance to see team play each other that the normally wouldnt. i like the chance to see a SEC team go against a WAC team. r something like that

It is all about the money. But if you had the power to cancel them you would upset thousands of people who look forward to a good live college football game in December.
