Heating elements can last 10 - 20 years if the vent is kept clear and free flowing and the filter is cleaned after every load and the filter area is kept clean.

It depends on the model and style of the dryer as to how you gain access to the element.

Since Sears/ Kenmore does not make anything but puts their name on appliances made by many other manufacturers a correct model number will tell me which style dryer that you have and then I can assist you in checking it out.

The elements are in the back of the dryer. Some units have a simple cover held in place with screws. Others require you to disassemble the dryer more to get at them. The elements are not hard to replace, and it is easy to see if they are burnt into.
