White light, warmth, and scents attract all sorts of bugs. Suggest using a yellow light bulb that doesn't give off heat (usually called bug lights, found in most home improvement stores), use a standard pesticide around the door and any windows close to the door (use the pesticide outdoors, not in, if you have pets). The smell of the pesticide should also help to mask any cooking scents from the kitchen (at least to the bugs). Good luck.

Try spraying your light bulb with a blend of citronella, lavender and peppermint oils. Mix 1 drop of each with about 1/2 cup water and use a spray bottle every now and then to spray the bulb, when the bulb heats up the smell should get stronger and keep bugs away.

the 'yellow' bug lites do help and the bug zappers are great,, but you MUST put the bug zapper 12 or more feet from your front door to lure them away from that lite!!

You can get light bulbs that have a yellowish colour and are supposed not to attract bugs. At least you can in Australia. I don't know how well they work.

Close your curtains, replace your outside light with a yellow (bug) light and spray strong insecticides outside.
