My baby is 3 has been on singulair for like 6 months, and her asthma is off the charts, gets colds like nobodies business and has this tummy that no matter what I do doesnt go down. Shes very active, and has a great diet. ANYWAYS, I am reading this site where like 3737637373 ppl are telling stories about their kids devolping ADD, weight problems and so on. I mean do I take her off? And this is all bad bcuz my fiance (her dad) is a Pharm tech and is totally eating the BS her Dr's tell us and just eats it all up.
I think i am going to take her off that ****, i mean I had to buy a nebulizer today for her....this is ridiculous. And what if its causing her heart to race, make her dizzy, feel funny, stammer? she is too young to know to tell me.

To the girl who said get "her profess help"....you are a moron. My whole pt is that is HOLSTIC a better route? Dr's wont admit that it could be doing more harm then good. ALSO, I am not dumb I realise that quickened heart pace and all that are common side effects and normal...WHAT ABOUT ADD? WEIGHT problems? Stammering? memory loss?
Anybody know a natural soliutioN!?

My kids are on Sigulair with no problems. Its a good possibility your pharmacy tech fiance knows more than you do about this. The heart racing is caused by the medications in the nebulizer, its a side effect. As far as the distended stomach, have you told her Dr, have you mentioned any of this? Or just self diagnosed? Taking her off that medication suddenly could cause more problems and definitely make the asthma much worse than it already is. Get professional advice.
Your question said nothing about a holistic approach, and if you knew the nebulizers caused increased heart rate why did you ask? It also causes the dizzy and stammering too. But I bet you knew that too didn't yah? "Professional" refering to a DOCTOR .

i think singulair is a pretty good drug but totally understand why you would be so worried. do YOU trust your doctor? maybe you should be getting a second opinion. do you see a specialist like a respirologist or just a pediatrician? the nebulized medicine will definately make her heart race. it doesn't matter what her dad does or agrees with. you are her mother and know your baby best. don't let them bully you. do what's best for your baby. sometimes asthma kids need to be on medicine for reflux to help with the breathing also so that may be why the tummy trouble. i think you need to be seeing a specialist. pulmonogist/respirologist. good luck to you but please don't stop any medicines without first discussing with a doctor. singulair is actually going to help long term more than the nebulizer as it can also help with allergies which could be causing the asthma in the first place. you may also want to look at info at the american asthma association...they can be a great resource and place for reference material.

Hi
Well Singular has a very small success rate in children firstly...
Is her asthma better or worse since taking Singular...
If you see no diffrence then i would stop it, if you have seen an improvement then review 1st with her consultant....
remember if she had changed her inhalers at the same time, the improvement could be through that and not Singular....
As for alternative holistic , nothing i am afraid she will need her inhalers , but she could very easily grow out of it, my little girl did...
I stopped Singular myself , and had her asthma under contol....And since me managing her she hasn't used her inhalers or had an attack in 3 yrs touch wood....
So sounds like you are both responsiable parents, remember dont be afraid by the consultant they love that...Do your research and tell him how you think her medication is working or not...
As for the weight defo the courses of Prednisolone she is on and steriods of the inhalers...
Remember drug companys have to list EVER condition ie heart pulp ect even if 1 person thinks it's that drug, they have too...
My advice try to be more chilled , if she is ill you will know....
Good luck....
She will grow out of this stage honest...

I think you need to talk to the dr, do not take her off it abruptly because it's used as an asthma attack prevention drug and she could really flare up to the point of a severe attack. It sounds like she has alot of allergies and triggers, you need to talk to the dr about getting her in for allergy testing to find out what her triggers are if they are dust, food, whatever they might be. It sounds like the tummy is fluid retention possibly and that could be due to an allergic diet. Until you get her to the dr, keep her on the meds and try taking out different foods from her diet like no dairy, then try no wheat products, no egg products, etc. It can't hurt to keep a food journal on her and it can help the allergist decide what to test her for and how she reacts when off certain foods.

Nebulizer treatments can make u have a racing heart, shakes, and stammering. Might also make her hyper. If the singulair isn't working for her, get her on something else. If her dr is not listening to ur concerns, take her to another dr.

Get that baby to an allergist and have her tested,, a lot of her probs can be managed with allergy shots and allergy meds. And make sure your seeing a pediatrician and getting a second opinion. I would take my child to a teaching hospital if you have one nearby.
Vanderbilt Childrens hospital in this area

Before you change her medications, check with her doctor. Do NOT let the opinions on this board override good sense. Very few people here have any sort of medical training, and most are kids. Use common sense - if she has a problem, call your doctor - don't ask a bunch of computer-geeks, including ME.

do not take your child off the medicine unless your dr. tells you. taking it off abrubtly could cause serious problems. but i would get another opinion very soon. sounds like she is retaining fluids from the medicine. an internal specialist,or allergy specialist is where i would go. your boyfriend the p.tech might just be wrong sometime, just because this person works for the pharmacy dept. does not make him a know it all, and especially a baby doctor! baby needs to see another doctor. it is your baby, take it to the damn doctor. poor child

You poor "mommy". Its ok calm down. God your dealing with alot. Asthma is no joke and can be scaaaarrrry and frustrating at the same time. Read all posts but than you must take the finial word from your baby's doctor. Don't worry, this just part of the ups and downs of motherhood. Your doing a great job!!!

You or your husband don't smoke do you?
I had "asthma" until I moved out.
I second the allergy testing as well, better to avoid allergens than to treat symptoms.
