Hi, i drive an 84 firebird with the 305 v8. Anyways, when you try to turn it on in the morning the first time it wont turn over but instead the choke light will come on inside, so you kinda have to push the gas a little to get it started and then the engine will bring itself up to about 3000 rpm and then slowly go down and turn off. But my biggest problem is that the car is idleing at about 2000 all the time even while driving you can tell that its very accelerated. But after a short time of driving it around the motor will calm down and it drives perfectly, but i dont what the deal is if theres anybody out there that knows whats wrong please tell me because i really want to get this problem fixed, but ill probably end up taking it to a mechanic anyways. Thanks

i'm going to challenge you will have sticking slides or cracked diaghrams interior the carbs, could be seals around the jets, or different carb subjects. inclusive of an consumer-friendly one, the cable is sticking or the springs on the return are susceptible related to the throttle cable. additionally cracked or poorly seated carb boots. ninety 8% a gasoline/air situation. The misfiring cyclinder could be a bad jet in one carb? Idle syncing the carbs is not any guarantee all are balanced. i could rebuild the carbs with a equipment or have them rebuilt then circulate from there. You pronounced you rebuilt them even if how so? With an entire equipment? or you only wiped clean them? those jets are extremely mandatory on those infants as are the gaskets and boots.

It sounds like a bad choke pull off to me. It keeps thinking its cold even though its warmed up. Worst case scenario, you'll need a carb rebuilt (not as bad as it sounds, fairly easy and common)

Bring it to a shop for carb repair. You'll have to leave it over a couple of nights so they can get a handle on the cold starts.

did you check the battery and terminals.it will idle fast till it warms up,mine does that till it gets to the right temperature, depends how cold or warm it is outside, how long before it goes down to idle.check the idle air control and throttle position sensor.

It's either:

A) Stuck EGR valve or
