How much of an impact does it make?

yes, I think it does and a smile from a stranger makes you think people do care!

A smile sure doesn't hurt. Coming from a stranger, one can make assumptions and projections that can actually make one's day. A smile from an acquaintance is more predictable and probably of less impact. Although it is nice to get and give a smile, sometimes it reminds us that things aren't all bad--someone gave us a smile.

A little gesture of kindness, such as a smile, can uplift a weary heart. A friend or a stranger may be struggling a battle you know nothing about. You never know how much a kind smile can mean to others.

Yes, it can.
One from a stranger can make a bigger difference than one from an acquaintance. You don't expect a smile from a stranger.

When someone smiles at me, I just feel like I'm cared about. A smile makes me feel great, even if it's from a stranger.

I would prefer to see a smile from a stranger becuase I can make people I know smile all the time with ease.
I love it when people smile, makes me think maybe for one moment they have no worries.

Not seem really mean, it scares me that a complete stranger smiles at me. It makes me want to hide the rest of the day.
