genius is a state of mind and does not exist in real world. Think about light and dark. There is no dark, you can't see effect of light. So, if person-1 think that person-2 is genius, then it is understood the that person-1 has less capability in some field and therefore thinks person-2 is genius. Actually, we all are supposed to be act like genius but we can't as our merit is diverted in real world. Some can and we call them genius.
So, the truth is the less genius recognize the genius.
Give you another example, say Einstein and Newton. If you ask them about each other, they will say each other great and highlight each other's great capabilities. that will be a knowlegeable discusiion. if you ask someone like me, I would say Oh! Einstein and Newton are so genius that I don't have quality to assess them.
So, we(non-genius) easily identify the genius. May sound funny but true.

Maybe, actually this is a toughie because if someone was truly a genius then only another genius would be able to tell how smart they really were, so I guess my answer is yes, but most of us dolts can recognize when someone's much smarter than ourselves

No it doesn't .. it just needs someone who can admit that a person has a genius mind .. because when people recognise a different or highly-creative mind, they usually try to put it off, and they do their best to make this genius feel normal, and even below normal ..
So, it just needs a good, pure person with no jealousy or black heart .. people know how to rate each others' minds very very well :)

No because a person that is a "genius" to me does not necessarily be a genius to you. I am retarded in calculus and physics, but I am a genius in coaching high school basketball and had won 2 divsion titles.
Does this make me a genius or retard to you? Depends on your perspective.
