Give 2 weeks notice in writing, offer to train your replacement and skip to work everyday.
Following is how I have quit my jobs:
Electric Company
I loved this job, but hated the State it was in. When I made the decision to relocate, I told them right away (April). This way, I was able to phase people into my projects. I got a job in another state in October, gave my formal notice and relocated in November. They are still a good reference for me.
Chemical Company
I liked this job, but hated my boss. After 5 years, I took my vacation, and started another job. I don't think I gave them notice. I use a friend from that company as a reference.
Consulting Firm
The job was OK, but paid very little. When I got a better job 2 months later, I gave my notice and told them that I wasn't making enough money. I was "fired" the following week. Sucks to be them, because the job I currently have used them a lot. I cut them out immediately. 2 months...not worth a reference.
Widget Factory
The job was OK, but too many politics (Corporate was around the corner. I gave two weeks notice and organized a massive pot luck for my going away party. I was there less than a year.

Do you want to quit your job or do you want unemployment? Of course you know if you quit you will no longer make money. Also if you quit you no longer are qualified for unemployment payments because you quit.
Do you have a family? Do you have responsiblities? Unemployment insurance doesn't pay very much.
If you just want to quit tell your boss and give him or her two weeks notice.

Write a letter stating thatyou are leaving and give a reason, (new job, need a break, going to see what life's about) in that way you are leaving on your own terms.. In an attachment provide a list of things you were doing with a status update and tell them thanks for the opportunity for working with the team and farewell.

That's sort of easy - you write a letter to your boss, saying "this letter is to resign my position with xxxx company effective (date)." Date should be at least two weeks out.
It's always wise to wait to resign until you have another job lined up.

Do it like in the movie half baked. walk into your crummy burger joint job, get on the intercom, point at your co-workers and say:
"f-you", "f-you", "you're cool", "f-you, I'm out!!!". Video tape it and send it to me. That would be cool!!!

if you have an empolyment manual it might have a section on how to resign. If not, have a meeting with your bus to talk about your plans.
